Arthur Ashe
Mr. Ashe was a well known and well loved African American tennis player. He was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia and won three Grand Slam titles. He worked hard for social causes all his life, which ended in 1993. He contracted HIV from tainted blood after a heart attack and died leaving a young daughter and wife behind. There was a memoir published shortly after Arthur died. It takes the reader from his childhood in segregated Virginia through to his triumphant tennis career and into his pursuits for civil rights. He is a much missed pioneer and beautiful spirit indeed.
